Today, it’s something for our furry friends! Amy and I both have pampered pooches at home and love to spoil them with a homemade treat or 2 (when we have time to bake). My pup is a feisty 7 month old Chocolate Lab named Artemis and hers is a sweet old rescue Greyhound named Ru. Ru is very sweet to lay around calmly while we shoot our food at Amy’s house. We have even placed items on the floor to get overhead shots and he ignores it. I am POSITIVE that my cheeky pup would devour any food item that even LOOKED like it was going to be in her general vicinity.
To that end, we present these lovely treats which could be presented to your favorite pooch or dog-loving friend as a gift this holiday season. Oatmeal is great for dogs with sensitive systems and adds healthy fiber to these snacks. Cheddar and Bacon make the treats truly irresistible. One whiff of these little puppies, and your furry friends will be doing tricks to get them in their bellies!
Cheddar-Bacon Dog Treats
- 2 cups oatmeal
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 pieces pre-cooked bacon chopped
- 1/2 cup water
In a food processor, pulse the oatmeal until floury, but still slightly chunky. Add the rest of the ingredients and pulse until well combined and evenly distributed. Form into a ball and roll out about 1/4 inch thick. Use cookie cutters to form shapes as desired.
Bake for 30 minutes at 400°F (200°C), or until browned and crispy. Let cool, package and distribute to deserving pups!
